Favorites live up to their billing! Salzburg cruises to victory in St. Pölten

In the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup, SKN St. Pölten loses 0-3 against Red Bull Salzburg.

Salzburg assert their status as favorites early, almost taking the lead in the fourth minute. SKN goalkeeper Knett makes a goal-line save.

The home team shows determination and fighting spirit in the first half. After a corner kick, a St. Pölten long-range shot from 30 meters smashes against the crossbar. Früchtl in the Salzburg goal would have been helpless (23.).

Immediately after the crossbar hit, Salzburg counter-attacks. Tabakovic gets to the ball in the penalty area. His first shot is blocked by a defender, but the second is converted with a volley for a 1-0 lead (23.). A little later, Camara doubles the lead to 2-0 after a footrace (30.).

In the 49th minute, Amon has a chance to pull one back. Früchtl in the Salzburg goal makes his first notable save.

Salzburg's third goal comes again on the counter-attack. Baidoo and Mazurek are left completely unmarked at the edge of the penalty area. Tabakovic spots the space, where Mazurek has all the time in the world to set up the ball and finally find the net (50.).

SKN doesn't give up, striving for a consolation goal and creating a few chances. In the 74th minute, Amoah becomes dangerous from a tight angle.

Between the 82nd and 85th minutes, St. Pölten, through Kolodziejczyk and Szerencsi, creates three top chances. A goal seems imminent. Substitute goalkeeper Füchtl distinguishes himself multiple times.

No more goals are scored, allowing Salzburg to advance to the next round with a comfortable 3-0 victory.
