Mission accomplished! GAK advances to Cup Round of 16
The Graz side celebrates a narrow away victory and advances to the round of the last 16.
Grazer AK defeats regional league side FC Kitzbühel 2-0 away in the second round of the UNIQUA ÖFB-Cup.
The Graz side takes control from the start and gets their first scoring chance after just two minutes. Maderner lays the ball off half-left in front of goal, but Koch arrives a step too late and misses putting the ball into the net.
Just one minute later, the early lead comes: Alexander Hofleitner shoots and scores the opener for the Styrians (3rd minute).
Kitzbühel Lurks for Counter-Attacks
Kitzbühel only sporadically creates attacking moments in the remainder of the first half and primarily lurks for counter-attacking opportunities.
GAK keeper Stankovic therefore has a largely quiet day at the office.
After halftime, the first good opportunity once again belongs to the Graz side. However, Mark Grosse's header flies just over the goal (53rd minute).
Goalkeeper Vidas Distinguishes Himself Multiple Times
Shortly after, Kitzbühel goalkeeper Vidas moves into the spotlight. He defuses a shot from Maderner with a brilliant save, keeping his team in the game (56th minute).
A few minutes later, Vidas is there again, fishing a close-range shot out of the corner (62nd minute).
After a corner kick, Oberleitner then seals the preliminary decision (78th minute). His header flies into the top corner. This time, Vidas has no chance.
In the end, it remains 2-0 for GAK, who thus secures their ticket to the Round of 16.
