Helm: "No one needs to believe I'm falling into depression"
Things continue to go very badly for Wiener Austria. Criticism of Austria coach Stephan Helm is understandable for the Burgenländer, but not burdensome.
The atmosphere in Vienna's Favoriten district remains tense.
Following the 3-2 away defeat at SV Ried, the Violets find themselves in a historic low.
Tenth place and only two wins from nine games do not meet the club's own expectations in Favoriten.
Pressure on Helm Mounts
Things are getting tighter for the Austria coach. "That's a normal state of affairs for a coach," says head coach Stephan Helm about the current situation in an interview with "Sky".
However, he is in constant communication with the management and continues to believe in the idea. Helm, however, is not burdened by rumors surrounding his coaching position. "No one needs to believe I'm falling into depression," says the 43-year-old.
"At this stage, criticism is naturally justified," Helm also tells "ORF". "That's precisely why we wanted to take a step in the right direction today. So far, we haven't been that far off."
Radlinger "Furious"
According to goalkeeper Samuel Sahin Radlinger, Austria must "stop making such stupid mistakes". The goalkeeper is primarily referring to the positional errors of the Austria defense.
"I'm furious that we lost today," the Austria goalie adds, referring to the unfortunate course of the game.
Especially the manner in which they are currently conceding goals is too cheap.
Eggestein Sticks by Helm
"A lot of things just came together today," says Johannes Eggestein. The coach is definitely not the problem for the German two-goal scorer: "The coach can't do anything about the positional errors," Eggestein states, holding his teammates accountable.
He further emphasizes his confidence in Austria's process: "I believe in the idea!"
It's clear that improvement is needed in Vienna's Favoriten district – and quickly. Should WAC win against WSG and Altach simultaneously take a point from Salzburg, Austria would finish the ninth round at the bottom of the table.
Joy at SV Ried
The mood at SV Ried is different. After the victory against Austria, the Upper Austrians are temporarily smiling from fourth place.
"It's currently fun to work with the team," says Ried coach Mario Despotovic. The 41-year-old, however, warns against excessive euphoria: "We have to stay grounded." Despotovic also praises his defense particularly after the game against the Viennese.
Pomer: "Never Tried It Before"
"We fight for each other," goalscorer Philipp Pomer emphasizes after the match, highlighting the reason for Ried's strong performances. With a sensational free-kick goal, Pomer put the Upper Austrians on the winning track.
Had he often scored free-kicks from that position in training? Pomer replies with a grin: "I've never tried it before."
