LASK comfortably into the Round of 16! The reserves delivered

Much has recently been discussed about the double winner's low squad depth. On Saturday, several players from the "B-team" made their mark.

Dietmar Kühbauer tried to rotate as little as possible during LASK's recent 'English weeks' (i.e. weeks with multiple mid-week fixtures). On Saturday, that was different.

In the second-round clash of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup against Deutschlandsberger SC, the Burgenländer – compared to the 3-1 win against WAC on Tuesday – sent seven new players onto the pitch. LASK's 'B-team' comfortably won 6-1 (Match Report>>>).

"The second string did wonderfully"

Christoph Lang, who is already significantly closer to the starting XI this season than last year, once again shone with a goal and two assists. Additionally, Canadian youngster Nael Kane bagged a brace, confirming the potential he had already hinted at in his previous brief appearances.

New defensive signings Yvan Dibango, Miguel Freckleton, and Manoel Verhaeghe played the full 90 minutes in a LASK jersey for the first time and were convincing – even though young Verhaeghe conceded a penalty.

Furthermore, reserve goalkeeper Tobias Schützenauer saved a penalty, after which he unfortunately had to concede from the rebound.

"The lads took it very seriously despite the rotation. The second string did wonderfully, which was very important to me," Kühbauer said happily to the "ORF" after the match.
