FK Austria Wien breathes a sigh of relief. After four competitive matches without a win, the "Violets," who have been struggling in the Bundesliga, secured a 6-0 victory over regional league side Traiskirchen in the 2nd round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup.

The uncertainty of the Viennese team was still quite noticeable in the opening minutes, with not much happening in the first 20 minutes; only Eggestein once slipped when alone in front of the opposing goalkeeper, missing a potential scoring opportunity.

At the other end, Patrick Schmidt narrowly missed a direct shot on goal – but this would remain Traiskirchen's only chance in the first half.

Austria benefits from defensive blunders

After that, Wiener Austria grew stronger. Hasan Deshishku was left alone after a long ball and coolly finished to give them the lead (22').

A few minutes later, the guests struck twice again. Johannes Handl easily slotted the ball into the net in the 29th minute after a free-kick, and just one minute later, Eggestein headed a good cross from the right directly into the goal.

Now the Favoritner (Austria Wien) were clearly superior and had even more chances, one of which resulted in a dream goal: Daniel Nnodim exquisitely brought the ball down from about 14 meters, let it bounce once, before blasting it into the net with full force (39').

Late goals in the second half

After the break, much less happened offensively; Austria focused on security, while Traiskirchen defended better. Only after the 70th minute did things liven up again: first, Eggestein narrowly missed making it 5-0, then Traiskirchen failed to convert a double chance through Philipp Schobesberger and Patrick Schmidt.

Overall, the second half was quite balanced, yet the match was, of course, long decided. In the closing stages, substitute Julian Hettwer hit the crossbar, while at the other end, fellow substitute Florian Fischerauer shot narrowly wide of the goal.

In the end, the ball found the net twice more, though. Hettwer hit the woodwork again, but this time his shot went in off the inside of the post (90'), and Eggestein sealed the deal in stoppage time (90+3').

Austria thus comfortably advances to the Cup round of 16, while for Traiskirchen, the cup season is over.
