Six New Faces, No Alaba: This is Rangnick's Nations League Squad

Ralf Rangnick's first ÖFB squad since the World Cup was eagerly anticipated, as it marks the beginning of a new era for the national team.

Marko Arnautovic has ended his national team career after the finals, Marcel Sabitzer is taking a break from the ÖFB (all info>>>), and as was officially announced during the squad presentation, captain David Alaba, who is still without a club, is also not included.

Overhaul in Goal

In return, the national team coach is placing his trust in several new faces. Vasilije Markovic (Austria Wien), Felix Bacher (Olympique Lyon), Christoph Lang, Lukas Jungwirth (both LASK), Nikolas Verantschnig, and Christian Zawieschitzky (both Red Bull Salzburg) are in the ÖFB squad for the first time.

This marks a major overhaul in the goalkeeping department: Patrick Pentz is not in the squad, nor is Tobias Lawal, who has been sidelined at KRC Genk this season. With LASK keeper Jungwirth and Salzburg's Zawieschitzky, Rangnick is relying on two youngsters.

Also not in the squad are World Cup participants Alessandro Schöpf and Florian Grillitsch. Michael Svoboda also did not make the cut. Junior Adamu (Schalke) and Marco Grüll (Bremen) return.
