Janko criticizes nation-change rule concerning Markovic
Vasilje Markovic has decided for Austria and against Serbia. The fact that a nation change would theoretically still be possible is met with criticism from Marc Janko and Andreas Herzog.
The ÖFB team has successfully started the Nations League with two wins from two games.
One of the bright spots is debutant Vasilje Markovic. At 18 years, four months, and 15 days old, he is the youngest ÖFB debutant under national team coach Ralf Rangnick.
After his debut in the Austria jersey, Markovic clearly committed to the ÖFB team. He explained after the game that everything had been clarified with Serbia, for which he could also have played (read all information here >>>).
Nation change theoretically still possible
According to the rules, however, a nation change would still be possible. According to FIFA, this is generally still possible if a player was under 21 years old in his last appearance for the previous national team, has played a maximum of three senior international matches, and at least three years have passed since his last appearance.
Marc Janko criticizes precisely this in the new edition of "HERZERL mit JANKO": "That too could be questioned, why you need four games. That was again decided by some people who never played themselves."
Herzog adds: "For me, that's a rule that doesn't work. If I play once for a country in the U16 or U18 or senior team, then I can't jump back and forth anymore, because that's unfair to people who don't have the opportunity to play for a second nation. I stand by that, and that would make things simpler."
