FAC loses fitness coach to club of Austrian international
The Vienna native is moving to Germany during the international break. His successor has already been determined.
FAC is experiencing another departure from its coaching staff.
Assistant and fitness coach Florian Koppensteiner is leaving the ADMIRAL 2. Liga club with immediate effect to join German second-division club Hertha BSC. The Floridsdorfers officially announced this on Monday.
The Vienna native is the second departure from the existing coaching team after goalkeeping coach Lukas Klinger (TSV Hartberg). In Berlin, the 33-year-old will serve as a rehabilitation coach for the second team and the academy of the "Old Lady" (Hertha BSC).
Fischer: "Hertha will be very pleased with him"
Another Austrian, U21 national team player Oluwaseun Adewumi, is under contract with the 2. Bundesliga leader. However, due to their different areas of responsibility, they are unlikely to have much contact.
Sporting Director Lukas Fischer has mixed feelings about Florian Koppensteiner's departure: "On the one hand, it's certainly bitter that we have to let go of another great coach. On the other hand, it's another quality mark for our club that we can be an excellent career springboard. Florian definitely left a lasting impression during his time in Floridsdorf, and we wish him all the best in Germany. Hertha will surely be very pleased with him."
Successor boasts second-division experience
Koppensteiner joined FAC in January 2025 as a fitness coach and, in this role, managed all athletic, strength training, and load management for the professional team. Since the start of the 2026/27 season, he has supported head coach Mario Sonnleitner as an assistant coach.
His successor, Luca Wirtitsch, has already been determined. The 32-year-old Viennese, who holds a UEFA B-license, was most recently a fitness coach at AKA Burgenland and also brings second-division experience from his time at SV Lafnitz.
