FC Hertha Wels Sacks Coach Heinle
The club's board wants a change in the coaching position. Markus Lackner takes over on an interim basis for now.
FC Hertha Wels has parted ways with head coach Christian Heinle.
As announced by the ADMIRAL 2. Liga club on Monday, the board decided on this step following the results of recent weeks.
After seven matches played this LigaZwa season, Wels are in second-to-last place with four points.
Previous assistant coach Markus Lackner will temporarily take charge of the team on an interim basis.
Swete: Step Was "Necessary"
"Following the course of the season so far and the results of recent weeks, we have come to the decision to make a change in the head coach position. With a view to the sporting development and the further goals of the club, we consider this step necessary at this time," explained Rene Swete, Sporting Director of Wels, in a statement.
"Regardless, we would like to expressly highlight the work and achievements of Christian Heinle for our club. In recent years, he was one of the defining personalities of FC Hertha Wels and significantly contributed to the club's development with great diligence, professionalism, and personal commitment," Swete added.
Swete continued: "Christian was particularly instrumental in building our youth academy and created important structures for the sustainable sporting development of our club."
Heinle: "Came as a Surprise"
Heinle expressed his astonishment at his dismissal: "Of course, this step came as a surprise to me. I very much enjoyed being on the pitch with the team every day and am grateful to have accompanied FC Hertha Wels in this still young phase as a professional club and to have achieved important successes together with the team. I wish the club, the team, and the entire coaching staff all the best for the future."
Heinle had been head coach of Wels since 2025; prior to that, he was head of the SPG Wels football school since 2023.
