Blau-Weiß Linz continues to hold the top spot!

The Steel City natives prevailed 1-0 against SV Austria Salzburg in the IMMOunited-match of the 10th round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.

This allows Blau-Weiß to overtake Vienna, who had taken the lead the previous evening with a home win against FAC.

Madritsch Scores Decisive Goal

BW Linz took the initiative from the start but initially struggled to create dangerous chances against the well-organized Salzburg side. After fifteen minutes, Jacob Collmann headed wide, and shortly after, Tsarenko tested Austria keeper Simon Nesler-Täubl for the first time (18').

However, the best chance then fell to the hosts: Gebauer threaded the ball through to Christian Huetz, who ran solo towards Giuliani. The Linz goalkeeper prevented the deficit with a strong save (27').

Immediately on the counter-attack, Blau-Weiß struck. Romeo Vucic extended a cross from Frieser, and at the far post, Diego Madritsch was perfectly positioned to smash the ball directly into the net – 1-0 (28').

The Linz side almost added another shortly after: Vucic shot from distance, but his effort crashed against the left post (32'). From the subsequent corner, a shot from Collmann was just blocked.

At the other end, Spitali missed the top corner by a whisker (35').

Just before halftime, BW Linz got another good opportunity: however, Vucic missed a cross from Dario Kreiker by a step (45'+1).

Missed Chances Go Unpunished

After the break, BW Linz initially remained on the offensive. Kreiker forced Nesler-Täubl into a save with a powerful shot into the near post (47').

After that, Salzburg got into the game better. Florian Rieder found Tobias Rohrmoser with an excellent cross, but he sailed past the ball with his diving header (54'). A few minutes later, Gebauer set up Christoph Gruber with a square pass, whose shot narrowly missed the goal (57').

After this brief resurgence, BW Linz regained control. Tsarenko curled a shot just over the bar following a short corner (65'), and Kreiker hit only the side netting shortly after (68').

Ten minutes later, Kreiker again had the chance to seal the victory twice (79'/80').

Although the visitors didn't manage another goal, they held on to their narrow lead. This marked the fifth time this season that BW Linz has kept a clean sheet.

Top-of-the-Table Clash Against Vienna Awaits

With this away win, BW Linz reclaims the league leadership and remains undefeated for the fifth consecutive game. Next Saturday, a direct top-of-the-table clash awaits the Linz side as they visit Vienna.

In contrast, Austria Salzburg suffered their first home defeat of the season. However, the Salzburg team has the chance to move back up to fourth place in the table next Friday against SKU Amstetten.
