Soukouma decides the derby
Initially, FAC had more possession, but the first good opportunity fell to Vienna. Following a pass from Christoph Monschein, Youssouf Soukouma took a shot from a promising position, but narrowly missed the goal (11').
At the other end, Mario Vucenovic squandered the Floridsdorfer's best chance in the first half. Lan Piskule beat several opponents at the edge of the penalty area and set up Vucenovic, who shot over the goal from a relatively free position in front of Bernhard Unger (33').
Consequently, no goals were scored in a contested but chance-poor first half.
After the change of ends, a beautifully executed free-kick routine initially created danger. Bernhard Luxbacher, who was substituted at half-time, got to the ball but mishit it and thus squandered a good scoring opportunity (51').
Just one minute later, Vienna struck: Bernhard Zimmermann headed a high ball towards Soukouma. The attacker reached the ball before FAC goalkeeper Paul-Pius Scharner and headed it in for the lead (52').
Vienna leaves nothing to chance
Subsequently, the derby remained characterized by numerous duels, minor fouls, and set pieces. A real flow of play hardly materialized.
The biggest chance for an equalizer fell to Benjamin Rosenberger, who failed to beat Scharner from a tight angle after a cross from Luxbacher (67'). The FAC goalkeeper thus kept his team in the game.
As the Floridsdorfer team played increasingly offensively, spaces opened up for Vienna for quick counter-attacks. After an FAC corner kick, the Döblinger team quickly switched play. At the end of the transition, substitute Luca Edelhofer failed to beat Scharner with an outside-of-the-foot shot (72').
Edelhofer with the decider
In the 87th minute, Edelhofer finally did better. The striker initially hit the right post, but Scharner was ultimately beaten by the rebound from point-blank range.
With 25 points, the Döblinger team provisionally takes the league lead, at least until the evening match between Austria Salzburg and Blau-Weiß Linz. FAC remains in eighth place with 13 points.
