Brandt Puts Young Violets Ahead
At the start, the Young Violets primarily create danger through U17 Vice World Champion Hasan Deshishku. The offensive player repeatedly looks for one-on-one situations, but the final touch is initially missing. After a pass from Deshishku, Romeo Mörth tests Sturm II keeper Christoph Wiener-Pucher for the first time, who distinguishes himself with a save.
At the other end, it becomes dangerous after a corner kick. Elijah Roche gets a header, but Stefan Blazevic is there and eventually catches the ball (17.).
In the 27th minute, the hosts take the lead. Gabriel Haider brings Marco Brandt down in the penalty area, and referee Cagri Demir awards a penalty. The fouled player steps up himself and confidently converts for 1-0, despite Wiener-Pucher guessing the right corner.
Sturm II looks for an equalizer before the break. Jonas Peinhart forces Blazevic into a strong save with a well-placed long-range shot (37.). Shortly thereafter, Austria's goalkeeper is also on hand to deny Wisler Lazarre's header.
Young Violets Waste Chances
The Young Violets come out of the dressing room with great momentum and have a golden opportunity for a 2-0 lead immediately after the restart. However, left-back Julian Roider fails to capitalize on it (46.).
Shortly thereafter, Wiener-Pucher has to rectify a mistake in the build-up himself. Brandt also misses another good chance to extend the lead in the 60th minute.
On the other side, Peinhart remains the most noticeable Graz player. He tries again from distance, but Blazevic once again proves his master (63.). A direct free-kick from Barne Pernot goes wide of the goal shortly thereafter (71.).
The hosts' missed chances make the match exciting again in the closing stages. First, Marco Hausjell narrowly misses the goal (72.), before Noel Polonkai also fails to seal the deal (73.).
However, Sturm II cannot build enough pressure in the final minutes. The Young Violets hold onto their narrow lead and celebrate an important home victory.
Thus, the Favoritner remain in third place with 19 points. Sturm II slips back to 14th place in the table with still eight points.
For the Young Violets, the action continues next Saturday against FC Wacker Innsbruck. Sturm II will face ASK Voitsberg in the Styrian derby on the same day.
