FAC Modest After Victory: "We Need to Keep Our Feet on the Ground"

FAC secures their first win of the season against vice-champions St. Pölten, but remains modest and doesn't want to get too carried away.

FAC's successful run against their "favorite opponent," SKN St. Pölten, continues!

In the first round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga, the Viennese defeated the vice-champions 1-0 (to the match report >>>).

For Mario Sonnleitner, it was his league debut. After the IMMOunited match of the first round, he was visibly satisfied with the result.

FAC in First Half: "We Allowed Too Much"

Piskule scored the decisive goal as early as the eighth minute. Nevertheless, there is room for improvement in the first 45 minutes. "In the first half, we didn't have proper control; we allowed too many chances," explained the ex-Rapid professional in an ORF interview.

St. Pölten's coach, Cem Sekerlioglu, on the other hand, criticized his team's chance conversion. "We created a lot of opportunities, but unfortunately, we didn't get any reward from them. We conceded a cheap goal after a transition situation," he added: "We simply have to score the equalizer or even take the lead."

Few Opportunities After the Break

In the second half, clear-cut chances were a rarity. According to the opponent, FAC had focused solely on defending, and they themselves were no longer as incisive as in the first 45 minutes. Nevertheless, it was a decent game.

Sonnleitner, however, praised his team's defensive performance after the break: "We should have finished one or two counter-attacking situations better, then it would have been a bit easier. But you have to say: Compliments to SKN, they are extremely strong technically, and against them, you need a good defensive performance."

SKN Demands Penalty

Ultimately, the losing team is upset about an incident. In the 53rd minute, the visitors demanded a penalty after a possible handball. "I believe it was a clear handball penalty that wasn't given. Bitter at the end of the day," analyzed the coach.

Thus, the vice-champions must accept the first setback of the new season and, as is often the case, collect no points in Vienna. "We have a good squad, but as you can see and as we know, it's not that easy at the FAC ground," it was stated.

The successful FAC, however, wants to "keep their feet on the ground." They have to do their tasks and still have some areas they want to improve, Sonnleitner explained in conclusion.
