FC Wacker Innsbruck is back in professional football - and how!

In front of over 4,000 spectators, the Tyroleans celebrated a clear 5-0 victory over Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz (Match report >>>). With this, they send a clear message at the start of the new season in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.

Wacker coach Sebastian Siller was almost speechless after the match: "It's surreal in a way, and like a dream. At the moment, it's a cool story."

Set-piece becomes the opener

The Innsbruckers struggled at first. Bregenz took control early on and created chances repeatedly, but after a free-kick, the Tyroleans managed to take the lead almost out of nowhere through Florian Kopp.

"Initially, we struggled extremely. One has to say, Bregenz is a good team. They really challenged us for the first 20 minutes, and then it was simply the set-piece situation that was a game-changer. After that, we converted almost every one of our chances," Siller states.

18-year-old Tyrolean is Man of the Match

With the breakthrough, the Black-Greens found it easier. The just 18-year-old Christopher Weinzierl increased the lead to 2-0 after a beautiful combination. Thanks to his strong performance, the Tyrolean was also chosen as Man of the Match.

After the match, the youngster could barely put his emotions into words: "I don't know how to describe it. It's simply an amazing feeling."

Nevertheless, Siller wants to keep the teenager grounded: "He played one game and scored one goal. Nothing more and nothing less. I'm extremely happy for him. Nevertheless, he is at the beginning of his development, and he must continue to work hard now."

"Simply played it out dominantly"

After the 2-0, everything finally clicked perfectly for the Innsbruckers. Still in the first half, the Innsbruckers extended their lead through Mouhamed Sy and Alexander Joppich.

Thus, they already secured the preliminary decision before the break. Nevertheless, Siller also had words of caution for his team.

"At halftime, we addressed things we didn't do so well in the first half. In the second half, we simply played it out dominantly," Siller commented, very satisfied.

Next tough test awaits

The start has now been successful for the traditional Tyrolean club. After the first matchday, they sit atop the league table, but the next tough test awaits next week. Then they will play away against Bundesliga relegated club Blau-Weiß Linz.

"It will definitely be the next difficult task for us. In this league, there are simply no easy opponents. Next week in Linz will certainly be extremely challenging for us once again," Siller warns.
