Also an ÖSV Coach: Ski Jumping Veteran Steps Down
In the 1990s, he coached Andi Goldberger and co., now the 63-year-old Finn calls it a day.
The ski jumping world will have to do without the services of Mika Kojonkoski in the future.
Speaking to the Finnish daily newspaper "Iltalehti", he confirmed the end of his career as a ski jumping coach.
Kojonkoski was once also active as a coach in the Austrian federation. Between 1997 and 1999, he coached the ÖSV Eagles, including names like Andreas Goldberger and Andreas Widhölzl.
Shaped Four Hills Tournament and Olympic Champions
Later, he also served as head coach for Finland (1999 to 2002) and Norway (2002 to 2011).
His era included Four Hills Tournament victories by Sigurd Pettersen (2003/04) and Anders Jacobsen (2006/07), as well as Olympic gold by Lars Bystøl in 2006.
"My Travel Account is Full"
Most recently, the 63-year-old worked with Finnish rising talent Vilho Palosaari. However, priorities have now changed. "My travel account is full," said Kojonkoski. "My coaching career is over."
In his position as chairman of the FIS Ski Jumping Committee, he remains connected to his sport.
