Simon Ammann will not start his 30th World Cup season for the time being.

The 45-year-old is not part of the Swiss squad for the first period of the Ski Jumping World Cup. Killian Peier, Gregor Deschwanden, Sandro Hauswirth, Remo Imhof, and Juri Kesseli were nominated.

"Whoever jumps best in training will be selected. What happened before doesn't interest me," coach Bine Norcic made clear. However, he is not worried about Ammann. "He needed some time to get back into rhythm."

28th Tournee for Ammann?

So, the evergreen will not compete in the World Cup at least until Engelberg, as the first World Cup period comprises five stops: the opener in Lillehammer (Nov. 20-22) as well as the competitions in Ruka (Nov. 28-29), Wisla (Dec. 5-6), Titisee-Neustadt (Dec. 11-13), and Engelberg (Dec. 19-20).

In Engelberg, however, Ammann is likely to be back in contention - just in time for the Four Hills Tournament. As hosts, the Swiss association is allowed to send an additional national group of four jumpers to the start.

This would be Ammann's chance for a ticket to the Four Hills Tournament. It would be his 28th.
