"Historical Humiliation": Press Slams Lens and Baidoo
Following the 1-9 debacle against Como, RC Lens and Austrian international Samson Baidoo are facing heavy criticism. "L'Equipe" delivered a dreadful assessment.
Following the 1-9 debacle in the UEFA Champions League against Como, the French press is coming down hard on RC Lens.
The French sports newspaper "L'Equipe" titled its Thursday edition "Ridiculous."
Austrian international Samson Baidoo played the full match in central defense but was completely overwhelmed, similar to his teammates. Together with his teammates Franjo Ivanovic, Matthieu Udol, Michael Cuisance, and Kyllian Antonio, the 22-year-old received only a grade of 1 from "L'Equipe" (Editor's note: 10 is the best grade).
"It was a 'historical humiliation'," the sports daily continued. "A defeat that will undoubtedly remain in the memory of many of the completely outplayed players for a long time to come."
RC Lens celebrated their only victory in the Champions League league phase at the start against Slavia Prague. At that time, Dino Toppmüller was still on the sidelines. Before the embarrassment against Como, they had already suffered clear defeats against Sporting Lisbon (0-2) and Club Brugge (0-3).
