The Olympic skiing champion addresses her followers with a serious message to protect them from a growing online threat.
US ski icon Lindsey Vonn addressed her fans on Monday via Instagram with an important public warning.
She spoke about a wave of scammers creating fake social media accounts in her name and that of her family to deceive followers.
"Will Never Ask For Money"
In her post, Vonn made it unequivocally clear: "I will never ask anyone for money, donations, gifts, personal information, or contact them privately through any of my accounts."
She emphasized that she exclusively uses her official, verified accounts with the blue checkmark on Instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
"I am not on WhatsApp. I am not on Telegram," the 41-year-old added.
Any message from another account impersonating her or a member of her team is fake. Vonn urgently asks her community to report such fake profiles directly to the platforms so they can be removed.
Scams Proliferating
In the US alone, losses from social media scams amounted to 2.1 billion US dollars in 2025, as data from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) shows. According to a report by "BioCatch", attempted identity thefts even increased by 130 percent between 2025 and 2026.
