Lara Gut: "Even a gold medal wouldn't have been worth it"
Lara Gut-Behrami is enjoying her retirement. Even with some distance, the Swiss athlete regrets nothing about her decision.
Lara Gut-Behrami officially announced the end of her active ski career at the end of August.
Even the upcoming home Ski World Championships in Crans Montana could not persuade the 35-year-old Swiss athlete to continue her career.
Following her serious knee injury in November 2025, the effort required to rejoin the world elite would simply have been too great.
"Even a gold medal wouldn't have been worth the months I would have had to sacrifice," the Swiss athlete clarifies in an interview with the "Tages-Anzeiger".
Suddenly "Everything is Better"
Instead, she is thoroughly enjoying her daily life as a retired skier: "Since I stopped racing, everything has become significantly better."
"Today I can even watch a movie until midnight without thinking about training the next morning," says the two-time overall World Cup winner.
"It's About What's Good for Me"
While training is still part of her routine, it has nothing to do with a possible comeback in the future: "It's no longer about how much weight I lift, but about what's good for me."
During her career, Lara Gut-Behrami won, among other things, 48 World Cup races, two overall World Cup titles (the "big globe"), Olympic gold in Super-G in 2022, and two World Championship gold medals in 2021 (Super-G and Giant Slalom).
