The start of the new World Cup season is going anything but according to plan for ÖSV skier Felix Hacker.

After the 27-year-old missed an extended period last season due to a meniscus tear and only competed in the European Cup following his recovery, another injury has sidelined him ahead of the World Cup speed races starting in Copper Mountain (USA) at the end of November.

As reported by "Krone", he suffered joint capsule inflammation during preparations in Chile. The Carinthian had to leave the camp in Chile after just three days.

"I don't know where it came from. It came on gradually. It's also possible that I simply trained too much," Hacker told "Krone".

Did not have a guaranteed spot for USA races

For him, the injury represents a bitter setback: the Carinthian is missing valuable training days on snow, having also recently switched equipment suppliers. However, he did not have a guaranteed spot for the overseas races anyway and would have had to prove himself in internal team time trials.

Hacker is now targeting the European Cup in Santa Caterina (Italy) as his next race. After that, he is expected to join the World Cup team in Val Gardena.
