Experience prevails! Grabher wins ÖTV-duel in Kitzbühel
The Vorarlberg native prevails against Ekaterina Perelygina after initial difficulties.
Julia Grabher is the first quarter-finalist of the WTA-125 tournament in Kitzbühel.
The Vorarlberg native prevailed in the round of 16 against her 19-year-old compatriot Ekaterina Perelygina with a score of 7:5, 6:3.
Perelygina's furious start - then she fades
At the beginning of the match, an upset still seemed possible.
Perelygina started furiously and quickly took a 4:0 lead. Then more and more errors crept into her game, leading to additional uncertainty. In the first set, she committed seven double faults. She still lost the set 5:7.
Confident in Set Two
In the second set, however, Grabher made a lightning start. She increasingly incorporated drop shots into her game on the slow court, which proved effective. A problem for Perelygina remained her serve. Her first serve percentage in the second set was 43 percent.
Grabher was able to leverage her experience and, after 1 hour and 35 minutes, converted her first match point. In the next round, the 30-year-old will face the winner of the match between Polona Hercog (SLO) and Jeline Vandromme (BEL).
