Tagger advances to Guangzhou quarterfinals
The East Tyrolean confirms her strong form and continues her winning streak.
Another success for Lilli Tagger in Chinese Guangzhou!
The 18-year-old comfortably defeated Poland's Magda Linette (WTA No. 71) with a 6:2, 6:2 score.
Lilli Tagger showed her class already in the first set. At 2:2, she secured the first break, maintained the momentum, and won every subsequent game in that set.
A Mirror Image of Set One
The rest of the match was practically a copy of the first set.
Again, Tagger broke at 2:2. From that point on, Linette found no way to trouble the 18-year-old, and the set again ended 6:2.
The difference in quality was defined by their groundstrokes. Although the Pole hit a total of nine aces, once the rallies picked up pace, Tagger was usually in a class of her own.
In the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament, the Austrian will face local favorite Han Shi (CHN/WTA No. 162), who entered the tournament via a wildcard.
