Rodionov misses Vienna blockbuster against Alcaraz
The Lower Austrian loses to Almaty finalist Nikoloz Basilashvili in two sets and is the last Austrian to be eliminated in singles.
After Lukas Neumayer, Jurij Rodionov also becomes the second Austrian in the singles competition to miss out on the round of 16 at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
The Lower Austrian loses to Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (ATP-95) in two sets, 6:7 (3), 1:6. This means that Austria is now only represented in doubles.
Rodionov also misses out on the round of 16 duel with superstar Carlos Alcaraz, who will instead face the Almaty finalist on Thursday.
From the tie-break, it goes downhill
The Austrian Davis Cup player manages to keep the first set balanced, even though Basilashvili achieves a break for 2:3. Rodionov snatches the re-break for 5:5, but in the tie-break, the Georgian is untouchable on his own serve and converts the first set point.
In the second set, Rodionov first misses the break for 1:0, after which he completely loses his rhythm. Basilashvili wins the first five games, with the Austrian at least managing to win one game for 1:5.
After just over an hour and a half of play, Rodionov's elimination is confirmed.
