Tagger also successful in doubles in Osaka
The East Tyrolean advances to the quarterfinals in the doubles competition.
Lilli Tagger and her doubles partner Isabelle Haverlag (NED) are in the quarterfinals of Osaka.
A day after her victory over Liudmila Samsonova in singles, the 18-year-old was able to win another match at the WTA 250 tournament in Japan. She and her partner prevailed 7:6(4), 4:6, 10:6 against the pairing of Fossa Huergo/Pilpuech (ARG/THA).
Tie-breaks bring success
In the first set, the East Tyrolean and her Dutch doubles partner were already leading 5:3, but couldn't convert it immediately. They were then able to win the tie-break 7:4.
As the second set was lost 4:6, the final decision came down to a match tie-break. After a series of mini-breaks on both sides, the Austrian-Dutch pairing held their nerve, converting their first match point for a 10:6 victory.
In the quarterfinals, Tagger and Haverlag will face the pairing of Neel/Olmos (EST/MEX), who are seeded third in this tournament.
