Lilli Tagger lets second WTA title slip away!
The 18-year-old Tyrolean squanders a set lead in the WTA 250 final in Guangzhou against the world No. 115.
Lilli Tagger's wait for her second WTA 250 title continues.
The 18-year-old Tyrolean actually went into Saturday's final of the Guangzhou hardcourt tournament as the favourite, but despite taking a set lead, she lost to Britain's Harriet Dart (WTA No. 115) with scores of 6:4, 3:6, 4:6.
Tagger Starts Strong, Then Fades
The match initially started according to plan for the Austrian: She immediately broke her opponent's serve in the first game. After exchanges of breaks towards the end of the set, Tagger clinched the first set 6:4.
In the second set, Dart then picked up the pace, and a crucial service break from Tagger at 3:5 was enough for the Brit to take the second set.
Visibly struggling, Tagger was immediately broken again at the start of the third set. Subsequently, both players exchanged several breaks. At 3:5, the East Tyrolean managed to save two match points, however, in the following game, Dart served out for the tournament victory.
