First Major Title! Nosková Triumphs at Wimbledon
The 21-year-old nearly let the win slip away at times, but ultimately triumphed in three sets. It is the biggest success of her career to date.
Linda Nosková is the 2026 Wimbledon champion!
In an all-Czech battle for the title, the world number twelve of the WTA rankings secured victory against her compatriot Karolína Muchová (WTA-9.). In a total match time of 2:29 hours, Nosková won 6:2, 5:7, 6:3.
In the first set, both players initially held serve, but then Nosková secured the first break at 1:2. The 21-year-old continued to play confidently, squandering four set points at 2:5 – and converting on her fifth attempt to win the set.
Five Missed Match Points
Even in the second set, Nosková consistently found the right answers to the game of the eight-year-older Muchová. Muchová found few opportunities, with Nosková fending off three break chances at the start of the second set, and herself breaking again to go up 2:4.
In a hard-fought eighth game, Nosková could not convert her first two opportunities to win the match on her opponent's serve, while Muchová, in turn, failed to hold her serve. Nosková then had another match point – again, it went unconverted. Muchová narrowed the gap to 3:5.
In the following game, her resistance grew stronger; she earned two break chances, both of which Nosková saved. Instead of converting her fourth match point, however, she hit a double fault – giving Muchová another break chance, which she then saved with an ace. It was a back-and-forth for Muchová, who repeatedly found hope but initially couldn't do anything against Nosková's strong serves. With her seventh break chance, Muchová finally narrowed the score to 4:5.
Nosková, however, also squandered her fifth match point. She then completely lost her rhythm, as Muchová first leveled at 5:5, then broke to go up 6:5, and indeed managed to level the sets.
Significantly Improved for the Decider
The deciding set was again a fierce contest; Nosková fended off three break points – and then broke Muchová's serve herself to go up 0:2. She saved another break chance from Muchová in the next game. After the temporary dip, Nosková appeared much more stable in the third set, both players held their serves thereafter – and Nosková ultimately crowned herself the champion.
The Wimbledon victory is also Nosková's first success at a Major tournament. She receives prize money of 3.6 million British pounds, which is approximately 4.2 million euros.
