Alexander Zverev is already creating a first before the start of the US Open.

The world number two will enter Flushing Meadows as the top-seeded player. With this, the 27-year-old makes tennis history.

Never before has a player entered a Grand Slam as the number one seed without previously leading the ATP rankings - Zverev is 5,100 points behind leader Jannik Sinner.

Sinner out due to knee injury

However, the South Tyrolean had to withdraw due to a knee injury, which is why the German has now moved up in the seeding list.

Carlos Alcaraz, however, will be taking part. The defending champion reports fit again after a wrist injury sustained in Barcelona four months ago.

In the mixed doubles, the 23-year-old Spaniard reached the quarterfinals with Serena Williams.
