Thilo Behrmann Comfortably in US Open Junior Round of 16

Thilo Behrmann is in the round of 16 of the US Open junior competition.

The 18-year-old from Burgenland defeated Romania's Matei Victor Chelemen, two years his junior, with a 6:4, 6:4 score in the round of 32.

Behrmann, who is seeded seventh in New York, thus lives up to his role as favourite and needed only two sets to advance to the round of 16.

Behrmann Delivers Two Decisive Blows

The first set initially saw an evenly matched game. Both players held their serves until Behrmann made the decisive move at 4:4.

The Austrian broke Chelemen's serve to take a 5:4 lead. Behrmann then kept his cool and comfortably served out the first set. The first set went to the ÖTV gem with a 6:4 score.

The match also remained tight in the second set at first. This time, Behrmann managed to break serve at 3:3. The player from Burgenland did not relinquish the lead and also brought the second set to a close with a 6:4 after 1:30 hours.

Last ÖTV Singles Player

With his progression to the round of 16, Behrmann is now the last red-white-red (Austrian) singles player at the US Open.

After Anastasia Potapova was eliminated in the women's singles round of 16 by fifth seed Mirra Andreeva, the 18-year-old keeps Austrian singles hopes high in Flushing Meadows.

In the round of 16, he will now face either the twelfth-seeded American Andrew Johnson (17 years old) or Israel's Dan Brand (17). Johnson reached the quarterfinals in New York last year.

Besides Behrmann, another Austrian, Lucas Miedler, is also represented in the doubles competition in Flushing Meadows.
