Lukas Neumayer advances to second qualifying round of US Open

Lukas Neumayer defeats Australia's James McCabe 6:1, 6:4 in the first qualifying round of the US Open.

Originally, the Austrian ace was scheduled to play against Britain's Oliver Crawford. However, Crawford withdrew at short notice, leading to substitute player McCabe stepping in.

The Salzburg native dominated throughout the match and managed to break serve in the very first return game. Later, he broke serve again to go up 5:1, subsequently converting it into a 6:1 set win.

Dominant Performance

The second set unfolded with similar dominance against the world No. 242 of the ATP rankings. Neumayer broke serve for a temporary 3:2 lead and held his serve until the end. After 1:04 hours, the 23-year-old converted his first match point. Throughout the entire match, Neumayer did not allow a single break point on his own serve.

The second qualifying round will likely be tougher. Neumayer will face Chak Lam Coleman Wong (ATP No. 94) from Hong Kong. He is the second seed in the qualifying draw, but he had a significantly longer opening match of 2:44 hours compared to Neumayer. The match is scheduled for Wednesday at 5 PM (CET).
