Rodionov advances to second US Open qualifying round
The Austrian shows no weakness against a Belgian, winning comfortably in straight sets.
A successful start for Jurij Rodionov in New York!
The 27-year-old Austrian secured a clear victory in the first qualifying round for the US Open against Belgian Kimmer Coppejans (world No. 218) with a 6:1, 6:4 score.
Rodionov set the tempo from the first minute, breaking the Belgian twice in a row. He sealed the first set after just half an hour.
The Austrian also started the second set optimally with a break. However, as the Belgian recovered from the early shock, an open battle ensued. Both players held their serve, and Rodionov converted his third match point after 1 hour and 25 minutes.
In the second qualifying round, Rodionov will now face the winner of the match between Diego Dedura (world No. 190) and Frederico Ferreira Silva (world No. 236).
