Tennis dream couple surprisingly announce separation

Tennis stars Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have announced their separation.
The Ukrainian announced the end of her marriage to the 40-year-old Frenchman on Instagram. "Over time, I realised that I need to find myself again, and that I'm unable to do so within our marriage," the 32-year-old wrote.
The war in her home country, in particular, has put a heavy emotional strain on the former world number three.

"Gael witnessed everything. He never let go of my hand. We fought for a long time together, with everything we had. But some battles take place deep within oneself, and no matter how much love someone else has, they cannot win them for you," Svitolina said.
Monfils and Svitolina married in 2021. A year later, their daughter Skai was born. "Skai will always come first. Our marriage is ending, but our family remains," the Ukrainian wrote.
