Miedler/Oberleitner Reach Vienna Quarterfinals After Thriller
The decision in the Marx Hall comes down to a Champions Tiebreak, in which the ÖTV duo ultimately prevails.
The Austrian doubles pair Lucas Miedler/Neil Oberleitner advanced to the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open on Thursday evening.
The ÖTV duo had to go to a Champions Tiebreak against Petr Nouza/Michael Venus (CZE/NZL). In the end, the two Austrians prevailed with 6:4, 4:6, 10:8.
"That was a bit too exciting for our taste, but we're happy to be in the second round," Oberleitner sighed. "In the second set, I lost some momentum; they seized that opportunity, and that's how it became so close in the first place."
No Easy Task in the Quarterfinals
Miedler/Oberleitner will next face Harri Heliövaara/Henry Patten (FIN/GBR), the world's number 1 doubles team.
"They are the best team in the world. It often doesn't even look spectacular, but they just do it well. However, I have beaten them once before at this tournament. If something like that is possible, it's in front of a home crowd," says Miedler.
