Neumayer advances to second qualifying round in Vienna
The Austrian needs just one more win to qualify for the main draw after his victory against Czech Vit Kopriva.
Lukas Neumayer has won his first-round qualifying match for a spot in the main draw of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. The ÖTV player defeated the significantly higher-ranked Czech Vir Kopriva (ATP-66) 6:4, 6:3.
In the first set, Neumayer secured the set with a break to go up 2:1. He broke serve again in the second set to lead 2:1, but then was broken back to 3:3 in a subsequent service game. From that point on, the 24-year-old didn't allow Kopriva another game and ultimately won convincingly.
For a spot in the main draw, there could now be an all-Austrian clash, provided Joel Schwärzler wins his match against Titouan Droguet (FRA).
