Coaching Change for Austrian Bowl Champions Graz Giants
The Graz-based team will tackle their title defense mission with a new head coach.
Austrian Bowl champions Graz Giants will embark on their title defense under Max Puchstein.
The new head coach and offensive coordinator for the Styrians replaces Stefan Pokorny, who is returning to Vienna after three years for private reasons, at the helm of the domestic American football champions. The Giants announced this on Thursday.
"We are parting amicably; we achieved a lot together in three years, and no one is upset with anyone. We always had good communication," says Christoph Kipperer, Sporting Director for the Graz team.
"Already Know Some Players"
"I am truly delighted about the opportunity and the trust to be the new head coach of the Graz Giants," says Puchstein. "Some players already know me from the U19 national team, which will certainly help with the transition – especially to my offense," he adds.
Puchstein was a player and then a coach for the Vienna Vikings from 1999 to 2018. Since 2019, he has been active with the Carinthian Lions. He won three European Championship gold medals with Austria's U19 team and World Championship bronze with the U20 team.
