Redemption! Acosta secures KTM home victory in Spielberg

Big KTM celebrations at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg! In contrast to Saturday, Pedro Acosta manages to carry his speed to the finish and thus celebrates the first MotoGP race win of his career.

The 22-year-old Spaniard was already on course for victory in Saturday's Sprint but threw it away with a crash just a few laps from the end. On Sunday, however, Acosta remained cool and thus fulfilled a dream for himself and the KTM fans.

It is KTM's first MotoGP race victory since Miguel Oliveira in Thailand in 2022.

World Championship leader Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) finished second on Sunday, his teammate Marco Bezzecchi was third, and Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) fifth. Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) finished fourth in between them.

Acosta grabs Martin in lap nine

The start didn't exactly go to plan for Acosta, who initially dropped from third on the grid to fifth. However, the young Spaniard quickly carved his way through the field, and by lap four, he was already second.

At that point, pole-sitter Martin was in the lead, managing to keep Acosta behind him for several laps, but on lap nine, Acosta perfectly set up the World Championship leader after turn one and pulled past.

The KTM rider subsequently controlled the race and brought home a dominant victory.

Brad Binder, the second KTM factory rider, also put in a good race. The South African finished sixth.

Martin extends World Championship lead

In the World Championship, Jorge Martin (306 pts.) extends his lead over Marc Marquez (294 pts.), now sitting twelve points ahead of his compatriot. Marco Bezzecchi (264 pts.) follows behind. Acosta is at 234 points.
