Acosta Drama! KTM Star Throws Away Sprint Victory in the Gravel
The Spaniard was heading for a comfortable victory but crashed out due to his own mistake three laps from the end. Jorge Martin manages to crown a comeback.
Drama for Pedro Acosta! He throws away a certain victory in the Spielberg Sprint at KTM's home event.
Three laps from the end, the Spaniard was heading for a comfortable success before he unforcedly entered the chicane much too fast and crashed. The beneficiary is Jorge Martin, who inherits first place.
A tough maneuver by Marc Marquez against Martin costs the pole-sitter the lead and several more positions. The Aprilia rider starts a comeback and becomes the man of the race, but without Acosta's help, it wouldn't have been enough for more than second place.
Even "MM" cannot hold the top position for long, having to surrender it shortly afterwards to his compatriot Acosta, who then rode a lonely race – until the faux pas.
Third place goes to the second Aprilia of Marco Bezzecchi. After Acosta's retirement, Brad Binder guides the first KTM to ninth place.
