Verstappen and Brazil are simply a perfect match!

As so often, Max Verstappen shows his class in wet track conditions, charging through the field in Interlagos from 21st on the grid to finish second.

Although it wasn't quite enough for the race victory in the end, he is naturally very pleased with how the race unfolded.

"It was very strong"

After all, back on Saturday after qualifying, a podium didn't look likely at all for Verstappen. A complete engine change resulted in a heavy grid penalty.

Verstappen ultimately had to tackle the race from 21st on the grid on the back row, right behind Lewis Hamilton (20th). But it took him just a few laps to re-join the lead pack.

"The first laps were obviously very important. The first stint was very strong," said the 29-year-old after the GP. After that, he continued to plow through the field and comfortably defended second place in the end.

Third comeback race in Interlagos since 2024

It was also not the first time that Verstappen staged a major comeback in Brazil and fought his way to the front. In both 2024 and 2025, he had to catch up from far back on the grid, overtaking almost the entire field.

The victory from two years ago naturally remains particularly memorable, when he fought his way from 17th on the grid to victory after a turbulent race. This was also the decisive step on his way to his most recent world championship title.

Yet this race Sunday brought great satisfaction for him and, of course, Red Bull as well. "Starting from P21 and finishing second on the podium is a very good result," Verstappen noted.

In addition, Isack Hadjar in the second Red Bull secured third place, making it a very satisfying Sunday from the team's perspective. With the Frenchman, there may now finally be a second driver who can increasingly contribute to success in the coming years.
