Andrea Kimi Antonelli crowned himself the youngest Formula 1 World Champion of all time on Sunday in Mexico - one's joy, another's sorrow. Mercedes teammate George Russell offers insights into his emotional state on social media.

The Brit started the season as desired and seemed to be the clear favourite for the title, before a dip in form caught up with him.

"This season started exactly as I had hoped, but then everything quickly fell apart - due to bad luck and weak performances. It was the first real season of my career where I had more bad days than good ones," writes the 28-year-old.

For the Mercedes driver, it increasingly became a battle against himself. "Was it hard to deal with? Yes, very. Was it hard to pick myself up week after week? Yes, very. Was I sometimes confused? Often," admits the Brit.

"You deserved the championship title"

Russell, however, doesn't miss the opportunity to acknowledge his teammate's performance: "I want to sincerely congratulate Kimi on this absolutely incredible season. You truly deserved the championship title."

For the rest of the season, Russell promises to continue giving his all to regain his form. In doing so, he hopes "that a bit of luck will also be on his side again."

Currently, the Brit is fourth in the drivers' standings, behind newly crowned World Champion Antonelli, Max Verstappen, and his former teammate Lewis Hamilton.
