Antonelli surprises with decision after World Championship triumph

One day after being crowned the youngest Formula 1 World Champion, Kimi Antonelli springs a surprise.

The Italian will forgo car number 1 in the upcoming season, which is reserved for the reigning world champion. Instead, he will stick with his previous number 12.

"I'm sticking with number 12 because it's naturally a very special number for me. It's also a way for me to stay grounded and humble," Antonelli explains to "Sky".

Superstition also a factor

However, superstition also plays a role in his decision: "I am very superstitious, and number 1 has never been a good number for me; whenever I chose it, things went extremely badly, so another reason to stick with number 12."

Lando Norris is currently using car number 1. The Brit secured the world championship title last year but must relinquish the prestigious number again next season.
