Will Kimi Antonelli be crowned World Champion in Mexico?

Already on Sunday (from 9 PM in the LIVE ticker >>>), the 18-year-old could be crowned champion for the first time.

Before potentially the biggest race of his career, the Italian is suffering from a viral illness, which caused him to miss media appointments on Thursday.

Now he could clinch the title already at the 19th of 24 Grands Prix. LAOLA1 summarizes all possible scenarios.

How Antonelli Claims the Crown

Due to the mixed results of his biggest rival and teammate George Russell, the Silver Arrows youngster wouldn't even need a top result.

Antonelli will become the youngest Formula 1 World Champion in history in Mexico if ...

  • he finishes at least ninth

  • he finishes tenth and Russell does not win the race

  • he finishes outside the points and neither Russell nor Lewis Hamilton win the race

Early Title Likely? What the Numbers Say

Looking at Antonelli's season results so far, nothing should normally stand in the way of an early title. In 16 of the 18 Grands Prix contested, the Italian never finished worse than fifth.

Only in Barcelona and Silverstone did Antonelli finish outside the points. Most recently, after three races without a victory, he was back on top at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

You can follow whether the 18-year-old actually manages to become the youngest Formula 1 World Champion in history in the LAOLA-1 LIVE ticker.
