Antonelli's incredible comeback: "A dream come true!"

The youngster has thus finally driven his way into the hearts of Italians, despite being with the "wrong" team.

For George Russell, however, it is not just another setback in the direct championship fight, but possibly already the decisive one.

Antonelli from P19 to victory: "I never would have imagined it"

Before the weekend, an Antonelli race win seemed impossible. An engine change for the championship leader meant he had to start from the very back, of all places, at his home race.

However, the decision to accept the grid penalty for a new power unit in Monza seemed logical. There is hardly any other track where a comeback drive is so "easy" to achieve. Nevertheless, a sensational drive ending in a race victory was not to be expected.

But Antonelli shone in Ferrari country and ultimately crowned himself with his seventh career victory. "I'm incredibly happy. A dream has come true for me. I never would have imagined it," the just 20-year-old naturally rejoiced.

He also benefited from the luck of the diligent.

Russell annoyed about strategy: "I was surprised"

A VSC period, triggered after Lance Stroll's retirement, offered the chance to save time during a tire change. Mercedes reacted and gave the Italian a fresh set of Mediums, which he had saved during qualifying.

Russell was leading the race at that time, but he had to drive to the end of the race on his old, hard tires. Immediately after the race, Russell expressed his dismay regarding the strategy.

"I was struggling with the tires. I actually thought we would both stay out. I was surprised that Kimi pitted," said the 28-year-old.

Usually, the car ahead is prioritized in this scenario. In the end, however, it turned out that Antonelli was on the better strategy. Pure luck, or the "Silver Arrows'" will to help the youngster on his way to a home victory in Italy?

Does Russell have to finally bury his championship chances?

Ultimately, it's another bitter weekend for Russell. Even before the season started in Australia, a potential dominance of the "Silver Arrows" this season had already become apparent.

Russell finally wanted to enter a championship fight for the first time. But for several months now, Antonelli has not only been stealing his thunder, but with a 66-point championship lead, he will probably not let Russell close the gap anymore.
