Having started the race from grid positions three and four, the two Ferrari drivers - Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc - are only in eighth place or in the gravel trap after four completed laps.
The misfortune begins already at the start, where Leclerc pushes his teammate off the track after the first corner. Hamilton is then passed through the field and only re-emerges in tenth place.
Leclerc crashes in final corner
Just two laps later, Leclerc's car is stuck in the tire barrier: The Monegasque loses control of his car in the Parabolica on the green part of the track and crashes at high speed into the barrier of the final corner.
Shortly after, the race is interrupted with a red flag to recover Leclerc's car.
The driver is able to get out unharmed, initially sitting visibly shaken beside the track for a few minutes. He is then taken to the Medical Center for a check-up.
