Austria's World Cup Exit: What Remains?
Between Pride and Disappointment: Spain ends Austria's World Cup fairy tale. The ADMIRAL Ansakonferenz takes stock.
The World Cup fairy tale is over.
With the 0-3 loss against European champions Spain, the ÖFB team bids farewell to the World Cup. The disappointment is great – nevertheless, a historic tournament remains.
For the first time since 1954, Austria overcomes the group stage, celebrates its first World Cup victory since 1990, and is once again in a knockout phase.
But what remains of this tournament? Does pride prevail, or do the on-field problems need to be critically addressed?
"There's no need to be critical of the World Cup at all. The team gave everything mentally and in terms of fighting spirit," says YouTube user Michael. MrReese, however, sees room for improvement: "One must be critical. Up front, there's a lack of ideas and precision. How do you expect to compete against good teams if you don't know how to score a goal?"
