VSV suffers an overtime defeat against HC Pustertal in the 12th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League.

The hosts started the game with pressure and took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute through Julian Metzler. Shortly after, goalie Joe Cannata prevented the guests' equalizer with a strong save.

Both teams also created chances later in the first period, but Villach took the narrow lead into the first intermission.

End-to-End Battle

An end-to-end battle developed in the second period. Wallenta narrowly missed the second goal for the Eagles, while Fontaine only hit the post on the opposite side.

Pustertal increased the pressure as the period progressed but initially found no way past Villach's resolute defense. Several power play opportunities also remained without a goal.

In the final period, both teams largely neutralized each other at first. In the 50th minute, Alexander Rauchenwald finally caused cheers in the Villacher Stadthalle: After a long injury break, he scored to make it 2-0 and extended the hosts' lead.

From 0-2 to 2-2 in 21 Seconds

However, Pustertal did not give up and pulled their goalie in the final phase. The courage paid off: In the 60th minute, Ierullo cut the deficit to 1-2, and just 21 seconds later, Farrance equalized. Villach lost the seemingly certain victory within a few seconds.

In overtime, both teams had a chance to decide the game. Finally, it was Fitzgerald who scored for Pustertal in the 62nd minute, securing a dramatic 3-2 away victory for the guests.
