Debacle in Ljubljana! Pioneers thrashed in Slovenia
Even against Olimpija Ljubljana, the Vorarlberg team is without a chance. They suffer another clear defeat.
The Pioneers Vorarlberg remain pointless even after the 8th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League. They lost 0:8 away at Olimpija Ljubljana.
The game was practically decided after just a few minutes. Ljubljana got off to a lightning start, scoring the 1:0 in the fourth minute through Nicolai Meyer, before exactly one minute later Bohinc calmly extended the lead to 2:0.
Although the Pioneers remained without conceding a goal during their two power plays, the puck found the net again as soon as they were back to full strength. Miha Bericic converted from close range after a pass from Gregorc to make it 3:0 (13th).
Pioneers' defense struggles
The middle period unfolded just like the first. The Pioneers seemed chanceless and conceded the 4:0 in the 23rd minute through Ziga Mehle, who shot from a sharp angle.
The next two goals by Urbas (29th) and Gregorc (31st) were very similar. The players of the capital team were able to shoot and score unchallenged from a distance. Pioneers goalie Caffi was not to blame for the goals, but he was replaced by Leon Sommer after the 6:0.
The debacle continued in the final period with Meyer's 7:0 (44th) and Urbas's 8:0 (46th). The guests failed to pose a threat even twice on the power play and had to begin their journey home with the final score.
With this goal festival, Ljubljana currently boasts the most successful offense in the ICE Hockey League and sits in sixth place. The Pioneers Vorarlberg remain last with zero points.
