First home win! Salzburg defeats HC Milano
The Salzburgers celebrate their first success after four defeats at Volksgarten. The "Eisbullen" turn a 1:2 deficit into a victory.
EC Red Bull Salzburg prevails in the eighth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League with a 5:2 home victory over HC Milano.
The Italians got off to a flying start. Diego Cuglietta beat RBS goalie Atte Tolvanen from close range for the early lead (3.).
Salzburg recovered from this and ambitiously worked towards an equalizer. Consequently, Mario Huber scored with a deflection on the power play after a cross-check from Wyatte Wylie, tying the game at 1:1 before the break (20./PP1).
However, the ICE league newcomer celebrated the lead again in the middle period. Diego Kostner scored the 2:1 goal for the Milanese on the rebound (25.).
Salzburg turns the game around before the second break
But the "Eisbullen" found a fitting answer to this as well, with Peter Schneider once again pushing the puck into the net on a power play after a Dal Colle tripping penalty, with his stick just below the crossbar for the 2:2 equalizer (29./PP1).
Before the second intermission, Peter Hochkofler also crucially deflected the puck for a 3:2 lead (37.).
Subsequently, the Milanese were clearly more active in the third period, but Salzburg also delivered decisive blows.
Nienhuis paves the way for Salzburg's victory
However, the Salzburgers proved more efficient this afternoon. Nash Nienhuis scored from distance in the final minutes to make it 4:2 (57.).
Ultimately, Adam Brooks sealed the 5:2 final score with an empty-net goal (60./EN).
Thus, the Salzburgers secured their first home victory and their second win this weekend. In contrast, HC Milano suffered their third defeat of the season.
