In Round 8 of the win2day ICE Hockey League, VSV was only defeated by the Vienna Capitals in the last minute of overtime.

The Viennese started their guest appearance in Villach with commitment, putting a lot of early pressure on the Eagles. However, VSV survived even about one and a half minutes with a two-man disadvantage after penalties against Paolo Wieltschnig and Steven Strong unscathed, and even took the lead in the 14th minute.

Capitals forward Konstantin Komarek failed to control the puck in front of his own goal, and VSV forward Elias Wallenta inherited it. With a targeted shot into the top corner, he put the Eagles up 1-0.

Late Action in the Second Period

Things got really wild in the final minutes of the second period. A penalty against Joel Teasdale gave the Viennese another powerplay opportunity, which Senna Peeters converted to equalize at 1-1 (37th).

But the Carinthians' answer came swiftly: Alex Wall hammered a shot from the blue line with enormous force against the leg pad of Capitals goalie Adam Reideborn, and John Hughes was first to react to the rebound, putting VSV ahead again 2-1 (38th).

The second period wasn't over yet. Villach's lead didn't last a minute, as Senna Peeters deflected Leon Wallner's shot past VSV netminder Joe Cannata for the 2-2 equalizer (39th).

In the final period, the Capitals further extended their superiority on the ice; VSV seemed without ideas. When Jakob Lilja pushed the rebound from a Simon Bourque shot into the net, giving the Viennese the lead, victory for the Capitals seemed assured (47th).

The Eagles Save Themselves into Overtime

Then, 17 seconds before the end, came the surprise: The Capitals were too confident and failed to clear the puck from the danger zone, allowing Maximilian Rebernig to score the 3-3 equalizer.

In overtime, the Villachers clearly had the upper hand until Sean Larochelle took a penalty. With four players against three, Nick Bailen found space and time for a targeted shot, securing the win and bonus point for the Viennese with his goal (65th).

The Vienna Capitals are in seventh place in the standings with eleven points from seven games, while VSV, with one point less, remains in ninth place.
