Tough Work! But KAC Fights for Victory in Milan
The Klagenfurt team wins a close match, but the game is overshadowed by a serious injury to the Milano goalie. HC Bozen and Fehervar also secure victories.
In the 14th round of the win2day ICE Hockey League, EC-KAC wins 3:2 in their first appearance against Milano HC.
The initial phase was quite balanced, and it took some time for significant chances to emerge. However, a strong play from Obersteiner was enough for the Klagenfurt team, as the KAC forward confidently scored the opener (9th).
The second period was also hard-fought, but the Milanese team became more clinical as the game progressed and eventually deservedly equalized, with Grant scoring on the power play (39th).
In the final period, Obersteiner put KAC back in front with his second goal (42nd). Shortly after, Milan suffered another setback when goalie Smith was hit in the neck by the puck and had to be stretchered off injured.
His replacement, Berti, then immediately had to fish the puck out of the net, as Hudson slid the deflected puck over the line. Milano then equalized with Grant's second goal (52nd/PP), but they couldn't add more, and KAC secured the three points.
Brave Pioneers Go Unrewarded
In Vorarlberg, the Pioneers hosted HC Bozen and challenged the league leaders for a long time but ultimately lost 3:6.
The clearly favored South Tyroleans fittingly took an early lead through Misely (2nd), yet the hosts showed plenty of attacking intent. However, this yielded nothing, as they conceded a second goal to Gellon shortly before the break (17th).
In the second period, the Pioneers got off to a great start, with Murray bringing his team back into the game in the 22nd minute. Bozen couldn't immediately strike back, but Hillman then extended their lead to 3:1 (38th).
However, the Vorarlberg team showed character and kept their chances of taking something from the top team alive with a van Nes goal (40th).
Ten minutes before the end, however, Digiacinto crushed the hopes of the Feldkirch team, scoring a brace in less than three minutes (51st/53rd). The hosts' goal by Skrastins came too late (59th), and Bozen sealed the deal again, with McClure scoring into an empty net ten seconds before the end for a 6:3 final score for the South Tyroleans (60th), who thus remain league leaders.
Ljubljana Without Points
Olimpija Ljubljana loses 2:3 against Fehervar. In Slovenia, the guests secured an early double strike, with Kuralt (6th) and Cheek just one minute later putting the Hungarians ahead. Urbas reduced the deficit for Olimpija Ljubljana (10th), but in the second period, Terbocs restored the two-goal lead (26th).
After that, it was an even contest, with Lawrence's goal (59th) shortly before the end ultimately being mere consolation.
