Goal too late! Caps fall in Budapest
The capital clash with Hungary goes to the Magyars this time, who also move closer in the standings.
The Vienna Capitals had to settle for a 2:3 defeat away to Ferencvaros Budapest in the ninth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League.
Jakob Lilja gave Vienna the lead after just 172 seconds of play, but it only lasted until the start of the middle period: After a penalty against Linden Vey, Carter Savoie scored the equalizer (22./PP).
The tie held until after the second break – before another penalty proved costly. While Jeremy Gregoire was in the box, Aku Kestila scored 16 seconds after the restart.
Gergely Toth's 3:1 (52.) seemed like the decisive goal. Although Vey managed to cut the deficit with a goal 54 seconds before the end, it wasn't enough.
The Caps thus remain ninth for now (11 points), while Ferencvaros is one point and one place behind – but has played one game fewer.
