DFB Boss on Argentina: "That has nothing to do with football!"
Rudi Völler absolutely does not want to take Argentina as an example. The Argentinians are a bad example.
Argentina was the focal point at the 2026 World Cup. With great fighting spirit and will to win, the South Americans reached the final. For some fans, however, the whole thing went too far into unsportsmanlike conduct.
After the final, Leonardo Paredes was further carried away by an unnecessary action. However, their style of play also impressed. Many German fans would have wished for such a fight from their own team.
Argentina is not a good role model
However, DFB sporting director Rudi Völler absolutely does not see Argentina as a role model at the BDFL's international coaching congress: "I said that we, as Germany, need to defend better. Many people took Argentina as an example then. I found that to be a bad example. All of a sudden, Argentina was the benchmark for everything. I found that discussion a bit hypocritical."
That's not exactly praise. "Yes, they became world champions and this time vice-world champions. But I truly didn't understand the praise from many people," said Völler. He only gave praise to Spain and England.
"I don't want a team that plays like Argentina. That has nothing to do with football," were his clear words directed at the DFB team. Argentina is not their role model.
